Laguna Presbyterian Church to host food drive Saturday morning

Laguna Presbyterian Church is hosting a community food drive Saturday morning, July 11, in the church parking lot (off 3rd Street). Donations of breakfast cereal, non-perishable items, or fresh garden produce can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and noon directly into pickup trucks for delivery to the Laguna Food Pantry. Monetary donations are also welcome.

This is part of an ongoing effort by Laguna Presbyterian to focus each week on a particular giving opportunity presented to the members of its congregation.  As the months of social isolation wear on, it can sometimes be difficult for people who typically serve as involved and engaged community volunteers and contributors to feel as connected to others as they had been during our earlier times of high-contact involvement.

Laguna Beach invited to donate food this Saturday

This program helps by providing a means for members to express their appreciation for and connection to the community through giving. Groups that have benefited from these efforts so far have included the local Laguna Beach Youth Shelter; the general homeless population (to whom weekday lunches are provided); the Laguna COVID-19 Relief Fund (benefiting those who labor in our restaurants and hotels, provide personal services, and serve in retail); and the Susi Q/Laguna Beach Seniors (whose programs offered to our local seniors connect them – and their families near and far – to vital resources that meet their particular needs).

In this instance, contributions to Saturday’s food drive will benefit our local community through the Laguna Food Pantry. Many families have come to depend on the Food Pantry as an important resource during these times of increasing financial stress and uncertainty.

School-age children can particularly benefit during these months when they are not receiving free or reduced-priced school lunches. While all donations are appreciated, contributions of boxed breakfast cereal, non-perishable items, and fresh garden produce are especially welcome.

Food items can be dropped off Saturday morning and placed directly into pickup trucks for delivery to the Food Pantry. To maximize social distancing and safety, volunteers can even unload your items while you remain securely inside your vehicle.

Not sure what to bring? Monetary donations are also welcome! Please make checks payable to: “The Laguna Food Pantry.”

Thanks to everyone who is willing to lend a hand – or a can of tuna – to help bridge the food gap that so many are facing today.
