Schuyler Ortwein-Cozzens: Stu News salutes Laguna Beach High School 2020 Graduating Senior

Schuyler Jett Ortwein-Cozzens has been accepted to and will attend Sarah Lawrence College in New York, where he will study film and mythology. Schuyler participated in cross country, track, and theater tech throughout high school. He was elected stage manager for the 2020 production of Beauty And The Beast before the school closing. He has made honor roll each semester and has received numerous Excellence (for academics) and Pride Awards (acronym for Problem Solver, Resilience, Integrity, Dependability, and Engagement), which can only be given to one student per class.

He most recently received the Breaker Award for outstanding achievement in American Government. Cross Country was Schuyler’s first team sport, and he received the Coach’s Award his first year, an award reserved for one athlete per coach for the entire team. Schuyler spent one summer semester at Oxford studying art history and was given an achievement award for “most dramatic overall score improvement” for the summer class of 2018.

Schuyler is off to Sarah Lawrence in the fall to study film and mythology

Schuyler was the All-District Division Winner for the 2019 Reflections Contest in the photography category.

Schuyler’s mother, Molly, says, “He is off to Sarah Lawrence College in New York this fall to study film and mythology. SLC was home to the indelible Joseph Campbell who taught there for 40 years and coined the phrase, ‘Follow your bliss,’ and so he shall.

“It is likely, however, that Schuyler’s highest achievement is that of blossoming into a thought-provoking, woke individual who has actively decided to lean in, take risks, and be a part of the solution in every aspect of his life. He is simply a pleasure.”

In order to celebrate our graduating seniors’ achievements together as a community, we would like to extend an invitation to graduating seniors and their parents to submit announcements about college acceptances and plans for next year.
