Challenging times call for creativity: LB Cultural Arts Center offers live streaming concert series

By DIANNE RUSSELL

How do we keep from going stir crazy in these complicated times? Rick Conkey, founder of Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center, has come up with a unique and creative remedy for what he calls “the social recession” caused by the coronavirus.

On Sunday, March 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. and continuing every Sunday at the same time, listeners will be able to live stream a variety of musical concerts via www.AlertTheGlobe.com.

It’s hi-depth and hi-fidelity, and all the listener has to do is tune in. It’s not like a Facebook video, it’s a real-time broadcast.

Conkey says, “The Cultural Arts Center can do things other places don’t do. We have the built-in ability to do this.”

Black Tongued Bells will perform online concert on March 29

The first concert on March 29 will feature local bank Black Tongued Bells. Conkey says, “I met them in Laguna 10 years ago.”

April 4 will showcase Nashville’s Jeff Crosby.

The LB Cultural Arts Center is a beacon and catalyst for advancing art appreciation, enhancing the quality of life, and promoting civic and cultural development. The arts center contributes to Laguna Beach and the surrounding community through its exhibitions and events.

LB Cultural Arts Center provides a creative epicenter through exhibition space, events and promotion to support artists in the following mediums: visual arts, music, video and still photography, film, dance, prose and poetry, and arts education.

Through its dedicated space on Forest Avenue, Laguna’s first cultural arts center will preserve one of America’s longest-running galleries, while hosting artists in the above media. Respectful of our town’s origins as a premier art colony, LB Cultural Arts Center endeavors to showcase leading edge, experiential, and thought-provoking art that focuses on emotional connection and artistic progress.
