Mayor Bob Whalen presented certificates on Tuesday to the winners of the annual Children’s Palette Contest.

The winning designs will be exhibited throughout December in City Hall.

“Tonight is always the highlight of our year,” said Cultural Arts Manager Sian Poeschl. “For the past 16 years, we have been encouraging young artists to participate in the Children’s Holiday Palette Exhibition and this year we received 115 entries, of which 12 were selected for exhibition.”

Poeschl turned the microphone over to Arts Commissioner Adam Schwerner, who announced the winners: Aaron Eagan, Katie Baker, Corinne Vartanian, Jacob Martin, Jo Foulger, Cloe Audebert, Sean Meihaus, Annie Zhou, Riley Berberian, Kellen Niebuhr, Sean Ibardolaza, and Donovan Lindsay.

Winners were invited to stand in front of the City Council dais to receive their certificates from the mayor, assisted by Arts Program Coordinator Michael McGregor. Proud parents and grandparents caught the moment on their cellphones and cameras.

The young artists were given a standing ovation, which included a majority of the Arts Commission.

“On behalf of the Arts Commission, I would like to thank all the teachers and schools that have supported this program,” said Schwerner. “Although anecdotal, and we would love to say it is because of arts programing like this, we have seen some of the participating artists go on to include art in their education and consider art as a career.”
