The kids and parents were surprised last year when this big truck pulled up!

The Community Learning Center’s (CLC) First - Fourth graders will hold their fifth annual Car Wash and Bake Sale at the LB Unified School District parking lot on Saturday May 12 from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. to benefit the children at the Door of Faith Orphanage in La Mision, Baja California, Mexico.

It’ll cost $10 a car and $15 for an SUV or truck.  Advanced tickets can be purchased through CLC families.  If you can’t come Saturday, but still want to donate, online credit card donations are accepted at www.lbclc.org.  Everything raised at the event will be sent to the orphanage, an organization that the CLC has been supporting for the past 17 years.

The Door of Faith Orphanage feeds, houses, clothes and educates more than 100 children and infants.  The orphanage has recently been struggling due to several volunteer groups canceling their visits, and needs charity now especially.

“The costs of running the orphanage are substantial,” said Pieter Wolters, a CLC parent. “It’s a CLC spring tradition to share our bounty and create a connection between children on opposite sides of the border. Because of the turmoil that has wreaked havoc with the economy in Baja California, we decided it’s more important than ever to continue this tradition.”

For information on the orphanage, visit www.dofo.org.  Information about the LBUSD’s Community Learning Center, the hands-on “school within a school” program for grades 1 through 4, can be found at www.lbclc.org.
