Laguna Canyon Road | 20600 Block | Trespassing

8:40 p.m. Jill Marie Pavlu, 52, Laguna Beach, was arrested for trespassing. Bail was set at $500.

Park Place | 2800 Block | Patrol Check

7:35 p.m. LBPD received a report of a man soliciting money. According to police reports, “A male subject [was] walking door to door requesting donations to obtain his nursing license. He asked the RP for a check for any amount and showed him several checks that he [said he] gathered from donors. The RP would like him checked. He thinks it’s a scam. The man was holding a folder. The RPs wife also saw him walking around the area. The RP researched the organization online and the address returns to a publishing company.”

Monday, Jan 7

North Vista De La Luna | 0 Block | Hostage Scam 

7:08 p.m. LBPD received a report in reference to a suspect claiming to be holding the RP’s daughter hostage. According to police reports, “The RP states [the suspect said they] were going to harm her daughter and had a gun pointed at her. The RP stated the unknown subject requested money be wired. The RP was afraid because she heard screams.” The RP confirmed her daughter was fine and requested that the incident be documented.

Coast Hwy | 500 Block | DUI, Hit and Run

4:14 p.m. Steven Craig Sowell, 69, Laguna Beach, was arrested on suspicion of DUI (bail was set at $10,000) and hit and run (bail was set at $500). 

Broadway St | 200 Block | Disorderly Conduct – Alcohol 

1:12 p.m. A 38-year-old Laguna Beach man was arrested for disorderly conduct related to alcohol. Bail was set at $500.

Pacific Coast Hwy & El Moro Ridge Road | DUI, Driving with a Blood Alcohol Content 0.08% or Higher

1:13 a.m. A 50-year-old Newport Coast woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI (bail was set at $2,500) and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher (bail was set at $2,500).

Laguna Canyon Road | 2000 Block | Disturbance

8:28 a.m. LBPD received a report of a disturbance. According to police reports, “A male subject approximately 40, overweight, wearing a red plaid jacket and blue jeans…[was] going after parents in their vehicles as they [were] dropping off children, yelling profanities and becoming aggressive.”

S Coast Hwy | 31100 Block | LBMC Violation

5:43 p.m. LBPD received a report of “Chinese lanterns set off from the beach, possibly the south end.”

Glenneyre St | 300 Block | Disorderly Conduct – Alcohol 

11:47 p.m. A 56-year-old Laguna Beach man was arrested for disorderly conduct related to alcohol. Bail was set at $500.

Grandview St | 200 Block | Battery

6:57 p.m. Charles James Hewett, 26, Laguna Beach, was arrested for battery. Bail was set at $500.

Catalina St | 900 Block | Skateboarders

4:16 p.m. LBPD received a report of “five to six young kids skateboarding where there is a sign prohibiting skateboarding in that area.” The young males were reportedly “yelling profanities and being really loud.”

Broadway St | 300 Block | Warrants

4:11 p.m. Eddie Steven Olesiak, 32, Laguna Beach, was arrested on a warrant for possession of methamphetamine (bail was set at $10,000), a warrant for assault (bail was set at $15,000), and a warrant for assault and battery (no bail was set).

N Coast Hwy & Boat Canyon Drive | Skateboarders

4:09 p.m. LBPD received a report of male skateboarders going down the hill. According to dispatch reports, the boys were “videotaping themselves” and “last seen heading toward Pavilions.”

S Coast Hwy | 600 Block | Warrant

2:53 p.m. Angel Rene Valdez, 23, Pasco, WA, was arrested on an undisclosed warrant. Bail was set at $2,500.

High Drive | 700 Block | Vehicle Burglary

1:31 p.m. LBPD received a report at the police station in reference to a vehicle burglary. According to police reports, “The RP’s vehicle was broken into sometime within the last two days. The window is completely shattered. A whole box of items were stolen from the front seat.”

N Coast Hwy | 100 Block | Vandalism

11:47 a.m. LBPD received a report of vandalism to the reporting person’s vehicle. According to police reports, “The RP was stopped at a red light when an unknown male subject came behind the vehicle and punched it causing two big dents.”

Forest Ave | 500 Block | Citizen Contact

9:52 a.m. LBPD received a report at the police station in reference to a suspicious man staying at the ASL where the reporting person is. According to police reports, “The RP wants to speak to an officer regarding the male, described as dangerous. The RP is concerned for her safety and the safety of her friends.”

Avenida Castilla | 300 Block | Animal Calls

9:10 a.m. LBPD received a call about a skunk. According to police reports, “The reporting person states a skunk went into her home and is by the water heater producing a foul smell.” The skunk has been in the home since 5:30 a.m., nearly four hours. According to the RP, the smell was getting worse. Laguna Woods security was contacted and was going in to assist.

6:47 a.m. Lynn Merri Leseth, 57, Laguna Beach, was arrested on an undisclosed warrant. Bail was set at $500.

Glenneyre St & Calliope St | Possession of a Controlled Substance 

2:13 a.m. Oshianna Maresia Calles, 21, Boulder, CO, was arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Bail was set at $2,500.

2:13 a.m. Grant Michael Bristol, 23, Laguna Beach, was arrested for being in possession of controlled substance paraphernalia (bail was set at $500), possession of a controlled narcotic substance (bail was set at $500), and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (bail was set at $2,500).

1:31 a.m. A 30-year-old Newport Beach woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI (bail was set at $2,500) and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher (bail was set at $2,500).
